Here at Als Kloster, it exudes history and cosiness, and it is this very special atmosphere that we want you to experience with us.
The headline is "the good life" - and we put in the effort to be good hosts, decorate with good style and serve good food made from scratch. In the long term, our kitchen will be based on raw materials from our own gardens. A monastery always has both a vegetable garden, an herb garden and an orchard - and we are in the process of re-establishing them.
Whether you walk, cycle, sail or drive here, we are ready to welcome you.

There is a lot to experience in the Sønderborg area, and most people quickly find their way to places like Dybbøl Mølle and Sønderborg Castle.
Here we have instead collected some of the experiences that we often recommend to our guests. Some are well-known, others are small places that are easily overlooked, but what they have in common is that they are located close to Als Monastery and are ideal if you want an excursion of a few hours or a whole day.
If you need more ideas, we are of course happy to help at reception.
Point of View – Sønderborg from a height of 64 meters
If you want to experience Sønderborg and the landscape from a completely different angle, the Point of View at the top of Alsik is worth a visit. From the viewing platform at a height of 64 meters there is a panoramic view of Sønderborg, Alssund, Dybbøl and the surrounding landscape.

Discover the history of 1864 with StoryHunt
If you want to experience the history of Dybbøl in a slightly different way, we highly recommend this audio walk. With your mobile in hand, you will be guided through the landscape while the story of 1864 unfolds around you.

Vibæk Watermill
A little hidden away you will find Vibæk Watermill, which is one of the area's oldest and best preserved watermills. Here you will find peace, history and beautiful surroundings, which invite you to take a short break and take a walk along the mill pond.
It's not an experience that takes up much space in tourist brochures, but that's precisely why it's one of the little gems we often recommend to our guests.

The Boot – a different lunch box
The Boot is a packed lunch house and observation tower in the size of a giant shoe, which was built for the Scout Camp in 2017. Here you can go up the tower and enjoy the view over Kær Vestermark or sit down at the tables with a cup of coffee or a packed lunch.
It's a nice stop if you fancy a little excursion where nature, views and a slightly different experience go hand in hand.

Kerneland – when the beach is the goal of the day
Just below Als Kloster you'll find a small beach, perfect if you're simply looking for a refreshing swim or a quiet moment by the water.
If you're in the mood for a proper day at the beach, we warmly recommend Kerneland Beach near Drejby. Here you'll find a wide sandy beach, plenty of space and an atmosphere that almost feels like Denmark's west coast – only with calmer waters.

Kegnæs Lighthouse
Kegnæs Lighthouse is beautifully located right on the coast and is a lovely excursion destination if you fancy a sea view, fresh air and a trip off the beaten track.
The trip there is almost an experience in itself, and the area around the lighthouse invites you to take a short walk.

Augustenborg – a city with history and experiences
Augustenborg is much more than a castle. The old ducal town contains history, art, nature and cozy cafes, and everything is within walking distance of each other. You can easily spend a few hours – or a whole day – exploring here.
In recent years, the city has been working hard to convey its very special history, and a walking tour is a good way to experience it.

Augustiana Art Park & Art Hall
Augustiana offers changing art exhibitions in historic buildings surrounded by a beautiful art park.
Here you can experience both Danish and international contemporary art in peaceful surroundings.

Augustenborg Castle Park
The castle park is a peaceful place to take a walk with old trees, open lawns and views of Augustenborg Fjord.
The park is open year-round and invites you to take a quiet break, regardless of the season.

Augustenborg Castle Church
The castle church is part of Augustenborg Castle and is considered one of Denmark's most beautiful rococo churches.
The bright church room and the many fine details make it worth a visit – even if you don't normally visit churches.

Augustenborg Garden
After a walk around the city, Augustenborg Garden is a cozy place to sit down with a cup of coffee or a light lunch. The café is located in the middle of the historic surroundings and is an ideal place to round off your visit.
If you are still there, we highly recommend that you also take the stairs up to the free art exhibition upstairs, where changing exhibitions are shown all year round.

The Royal Kitchen Garden in Gråsten
Right behind Gråsten Castle you will find the Royal Kitchen Garden – a beautiful and peaceful garden where flowers, vegetables and fruit trees grow side by side.
The garden is open to visitors and is an obvious destination if you want a quiet experience in historic surroundings.

Cathrinesminde Brickworks
The brickworks have left their clear mark on the landscape around Als, and a visit to Cathrinesminde Brickworks provides an exciting insight into that history.
The former brickworks is today a living museum where you can experience how bricks were made and the importance the brick industry had for the entire area.
