Walks around Als Kloster

The area around Als Kloster invites you to get out and walk.

The Gendarm Path is located in the monastery's backyard and is one of the most beautiful stretches along the coast. It is 84 km long in total and offers the opportunity for really good, long walks. But often you may just need a break or some fresh air, so we have collected a handful of shorter routes in the area.

Several of the routes are round trips. This is because the Gendarm Path follows the coast, and the alternative will often take you out onto the country road. It would be a shame to waste time on it, when the view and surroundings around the Gendarm Path are so beautiful that it can easily be repeated.

We have collected five routes of varying lengths so you can easily find one that suits the time and pace you have.

The Kloster Trail
– about 15 minutes

A walk along the Kloster Trail from the meadow and down to the Gendarm Path. You walk on a grass path that we maintain so it is easy to follow.

Here the landscape opens up with a view of the coast, and about halfway there is a bench where it is an ideal place to take a break.

Good when you have a little more time.

The beach trip
– approx. 30 minutes

A walk down the Kloster Trail and further to the right on the Gendarm Path. Here you follow the path along the coast with views from the cliff before reaching the beach.

The tour ends at a sandy beach, where you get right down to the water level, and go back the same way.

Good when you want to be a little closer to the water.

The summer house route
– approx. 30 minutes

A walk down the Als Kloster Trail and further to the left. Along the way you pass a small stream before reaching the summer house area.

Here, the houses are located on round plots, which gives the area a special character - even though it is only really seen from above.

The trip goes back the same way.

Good when you want to take a quiet walk and experience a different side of the area.

Around Trillen
– approx. 60–75 minutes

A walk down the Kloster Trail and further to the left past the summer house area and out towards Trillen. Here you walk around the small peninsula, where the landscape opens up around the lake and coast, before returning the same way.

Trillen is a natural area with a bird-rich lake surrounded by salt marshes and water, and along the way there is a lookout tower with a view of the area.

Good when you have plenty of time and want to get around a little further.

The country hotel Als Kloster and the city hotel Hotel Arnkilhus are run by the same family.
